MATERIAL BASED DESIGN
Parallel to his endeavours into speculative design, Frederik Deschuytter has been working as a freelance material designer. After an internship at Iris van Herpen, Frederik joined the Dutch design agency Envisions in 2018. Here, he has been active as a designer and material expert, contributing to projects in material, product, and spatial design, trend forecasting, and writing.

LEVI’S® X ENVISIONS
Denim in Process ● material samples
Envisions was invited by Levi’s® to explore the boundaries of what their iconic denim material could become. Frederik worked on a wide range of over 75 material experiments, reimagining post-consumer denim while moving beyond traditional garment design to explore how recycled denim can be used in interior design applications and beyond.

FELTTOUCH X ENVISIONS
Refelt ● material samples
Refelt investigates how off-cuts from felt production can be reprocessed and reused in creating new materials. By applying heat and pressure to rolled-up leftovers, Frederik shaped novel color combinations and patterns, resulting in materials that retain the felt’s acoustic properties.photography ● Ronald Smits
CBRE X ENVISIONS
Colour in motion ● light totems
Envisions was commissioned by CBRE’s Eindhoven office to create a total concept for a multipurpose room. In this project, Frederik designed a series of 3D-printed light totems, inspired by the city’s increasingly metropolitan skyline. The stacked printed volumes, combined with colored filters, create an iridescent interplay of colors.

ECOO X ENVISIONS
Recycled plastics in process ● material samples
Ecoo invited Envisions to reimagine their new board material made from recycled plastics. Applying colored filters and cut-outs, Frederik highlighted the board’s characteristic speckled appearance, enhancing and reframing its existing details and colors.
